Hi Guys, this is my first computer build and I would like it to be nice. I have picked out some components, but I am not quite sure if and how they will work together. I am a real newbie and any advice would be appreciated.

Approximate Purchase Date: this or next week

Budget Range: 2.0 – 2.5k

System Usage from Most to Least Important: encoding and watching video and movies, surfing the internet, light gaming.

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg.com, Amazon.com

SLI or Crossfire: No

Additional Comments: Future proof. Is there anything else I am missing? cables, connectors, cords, glue (just kidding).

Why win 7 pro?

You have a 1k build. at 2k, you need to go 3 screen or 3d lol. If you would like to keep it around 1k, grab a GTX 560 or 6950. If you use alot of video editing software as mentioned, look at the GPU acceleration requirements. The GTX 570 can be used like a Quadro in many applications.

This card is pricey, but it allows for GPU acceleration and Adobe CS5 support. It may be a worthwhile investment. What do you think?

If you use alot of programs that can take advantage of the GPU acceleration, Absolutely! It's an excellent card for gaming, and the GPU acceleration makes it even more worthwhile.

Thank you so much. Any more ideas...how about the RAM, is it appropiate?

The ram you picked out above will be just fine. About $30 more for the 1866 speeds, but 8GB is just fine.

looks great! The Raven 02-e cases are the same internally as the FT02.. just different exteriors, but are a bit less expensive. Go with whichever one you like the most tho

Is there a reason for the ethernet card? The motherboard you selected has Gigabit ethernet built in. The other thing is that monitor seems a tad expensive. Just my opinion.

Thank you for all your help striker. I have ordered all the components and, hopefully, will be building the system this weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out. Cheers
