Hi, I'm new to PC gaming and I need a quick compatibility check before I buy all of the components. Any advice is also appreciated. Budget < $1000 and overclocking is not necessary. I'm not looking for a high end rig. Just a build that will be able to play anything at medium settings or lower at 60 fps.

few things. One, the Phenom II's are obsolete. Get a sandy bridge build (2500k plus p67) and you will get much more for your money. Next, it would be much better to grab some G.skill ram like this, ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277&cm_re=g.skill-_-20-231-277-_-Product ) it's cheaper and looks cooler lol. Next thing, Grab a different PSU. Thermaltake make OK ones, but it would be better to grab an OCZ, Antec, or Corsair PSU.

A better hard drive is the Samsung Spinpoint f3, cheaper/faster.

That GTX 460 SE you have is a downgraded 460, with disabled shaders and bandwidth.

A cooler master 212+ is a better cooler for $10 more.
I will compile a example build shortly.

lol thanks for all the input. i only really needed a compatibility check rather than a complete redo of the build. i'll be sure to take everything you said into consideration. from what i've heard though is that the 965 still gets the job done and it's cheaper than intel desktops.

Yeah my bad. I stand by the fact that it's a way better build for your budget....

Anyway,
this is better ram, cheaper too: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277

I would suggest this hard drive as it is faster, and only $15 for double the storage. The speed is the selling point though. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Spinpoint-3-5-Inch-Internal-HD103SJ/dp/B002MQC0P8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305418160&sr=8-2
The GTX 460 SE is a bad deal, as they disable the bandwidth and shaders. Here's a better card for the same price: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-PCI-Express-Graphics-768-P3-1360-TR/dp/B003V8ATWC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305429758&sr=8-2

That PSU is ok, but WAY over wattage. you will need a 500w tops. check out this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371034&Tpk=antec%20430

Everything else looks just fine.
