Hello fellow nerds! I'm making a computer for my dad and his three points were; it must be quiet, it must boot instantly and be in a 600t case.

Boot easily solved with an SSD and half decent cpu.

However the case includes two 200mm fans. This is great for gamers, as they move a lot of air and are relatively quiet. However they ALL run at 700rpm which makes quiet a lot of ambient noise ( not much but too much for my father apparently ).

The plan? Replace the two 200mm fans with two 140mm noctuas running at 750RPM. ( should be about 1/3 less noise).

The question? Is the cases 200mm ports 140mm compatible?

Also any silencing advise would be great.

If your case doesn't come with a fan controller, you should be able to either download a program to controll the fan speed or buy your own fan controller.

If not, you should try motherboard monitor, I'm not sure if it can change fan speed though but worth a try:

As for switching your 200mm with 140mm.. I would say most 120mm and 140mm are more or less share a general size. I think there isn't any real general size for 200mm fans because it's more or less by the manufacturers but you can make it work by a little modding or zip-ties. As for the 140mm, I'm not too sure.. you may be able to ziptie like two 120mm to it Sorry I'm not much help here.

The quiestest 200mm fan I can find on newegg are from 15-20dbA:

What CPU cooler can you use (other than water cooling) that is less than 20db under load?

Well, I was going to recommend the Scythe SCMG-2100 it ranges 0-26.5db. If money isn't a concern, I would purchase a Noctua aftermarket heatsink and fan instead. They work the best out of the box but they are pretty big. Even my $40 Antec 300 came with fan controllers.
