Why is my cpu usage spiking when im not doign anything?

last month I have been experimenting with my CPU on overclocking but i have failed on all those times. My CPU started spiking like if it was running some powerful program like a game or other AIM software and then going down. Might this be that i screwed up my CPU for trying to mess with its voltage or what? In the end when this happens wish is all the time the computer crashes.

I would go back into the BIOs and double check all the settings. Does your motherboard offer an automatically adjusting feature to control the CPU?

Yes it does and i already put everything back to default. There is even a option that does all that for you automatically.

anyhow i just fixed the problem i just formated the HDD thanks for the answers anyways.
