Hey!

It seems that I can no longer fit cards on to my MoBo, but I want to CrossFire my Radeon with another one. I know you can externally connect a GPU to a P.C., but is there a way to Crossfire a GPU on the MoBo with GPUs off the MoBo?

I have two more P.C. regarding questions that is off topic, if you do not mind!

1. If a GPU says it needs PCI Express 2.1 x16, but you put it in a PCI Express 2.1 x8 slot (It could be x16 but because you are using another slot, it is currently a x8), will the GPU work? and if it does, is there any negatives to it?

2. When building a computer, how do you tell which wire is negative and which is positive currant? I believe when its;

- Black & Red, Black is Negative and Red is Positive
- Red & other colours, Red is positive and other colours are negative?

Thank you!

umm didn't really understand what you meant with that, but nope cant be done.. Cards needs to be connected with the crossfire bridge and that thing is only like 2'' long....

1. it will run just fine, x8 has only half the bandwidth available, but even the most top of the line cards aren't using all of the bandwidth anyways, so no biggie there

2, with power cables
black is ground
yellow +12V
red +5V
but you dont need to worry about those too much, all the plugs are keyed in a way that prevents them from being inserted in a wrong way..
though there are some exceptions, like the little ones coming from front panel of the case, like power and hdd activity lights etc. but then again nothing breaks if you plug them in the wrong way, power and reset buttons will work either way and the leds just wont light up.

First...I believe the two cards have to be on the same mobo

Second...Yes the other card put in the 8x(16x) slot will work...I have 2 x16 slots and the second is a x8 if you put a card in the first slot and want to x-fire in the second...

Third...What is the relevance of the wiring?...I never ran into this issue when I built mine...just wondering

Just to add a comment... I'm not sure if I understand right but if you don't physically have the space on the motherboard for 2 cards, you can buy some PCIe slot extenders. They will most likely induce a slight delay/slow down of the graphics but it should work. Then you can put the cards wherever you want. But they must be connected by a bridge.
