I know it hasn't been announced yet but does anyone know around what time we can expect? Does amd and nvidia follow a pattern of releasing new graphics cards, kind of like how apple releases new ipods/iphones/macs around the same time every year?
For AMD i would think that they would finish the 6xxx series before they start with the 7xxx series. They usually release the performance cards first and then fill in the gaps with the low budget and general consumer cards.Only 4 cards have been released in the 6xxx series cards since October of 2010 so i would think we have a long time till the 7xxx series.
Can't really say for Nvidia but my guess is they follow the same guidline as AMD as far as releasing cards. So far the 5xx series cards only go as low as 560.So if they were to introduce more consumer level cards they would probably release them to finish the 5xx series before they start on the 6xx series. With the release of the 590 soon it's supposed to be the best of the best for them so i wouldn't think they would make a card that would top that for a long long time.Usually no one moves onto another series unless it's a new technology.
The next nVidia card should be the GTX550-Ti which is basicly an overclocked GTS450 with some extra features, following that will probably be the GTX590 and then the low-end cards being GT-530 and GTS-540.
Probably Q4 2011 or Q1 2012. Both the GTX 6xx series and AMD 7xxx series are to manufactured on TSMCs 28nm process, which isn't going to be ready for the kind of full scale production that is needed for these chips until around that time frame. If TSMC has the same kind of issues that had occured with the 40nm process then we could see release dates slip to Q1 2012 or Q2 2012.
Maybe they will release it in the year of 2012 when the microsoft release the windows 8 because the windows 8 has a directX 11.1 so the nvidia and amd will update their product for the support of directX 11.1. the nvidia 5xx and 6xxx below can only support directX 11
