Hi I just recently upgraded from a 5870 to a 480 sli setup. I had considered getting a single 580 gtx instead, but chose to go with the 480's because I had a deal on two previously gently used EVGA 480's(the guy only used them for 3 months before getting two 580's.) So I have been running them through and even though they run rather hot, I find that the fans @ 70% are not audible over headsets. So I ran them through and finally beat all the Stalker games, with mods included. So then I decided to play through Crysis for the first time( I had been waiting to play it till I could get close to 60 fps maxed), and modded it with Reli2 and Extremefx2. I also have an i5-750@3.8 with 4 gb of ram, and playing at 1080p. However, whenever I'm in constant action, the game dips frequently into the teens in fps. Is this normal for a 480 sli setup? Thanks

Sounds like a minor bottleneck some ware so list your settings including in game and we will see then.

Do you think the mods crush the performance that much? I mean theoretically 480 sli should get like a much higher performance than one 580 gtx, correct?

they are custom in game settings because of the two mods. Only 2xaa.

The gtx 480 has its own issue it was consider a failure in nvidias eye this is why the 580 was released so fast i could have bought 2 480s but i decided to get the improved 580. I dont know why it would drop fps so much are there visual enchancment mods. if so there are some mods for oblivion that makes 4x gtx 580s sweat.

I mean I understand the architectural shortcomings of the 480, but regardless to me @ 1080p the raw performance would have been better than a single 580 by a good margin in demanding games. I do feel like it's a bit overkill but I want to be able to get a steady 60 fps maxed. I just don't understand why I'm at a steady 50 fps and then I suddenly dip into the teens in certain areas. I even run it in 32 bit windows 7 instead of 64, which made the game run much smoother for me overall.
