hi ppl,

plz help me out.have alot of questions in my mind.

i am buying new GPU n confused between these 2 cards
MSI GTX 580Ti twin frozer and MSI 6950 Twin frozer

i want to use it for rendering, CG art,Encoding,3D contend n some gamming. need some quality graphics for 3d work.

i have a budget of 320$ max, shud i go for a single GPU or dual ?, sli or crossfire ?

I'm wondering if you had a typo with listing the 580. Usually, the GTX 560 is comparable to the HD6950. Here is a pair of reviews of the MSI Twin Frozr cards in GTX 560 and HD6950 varieties:

I believe the 560 with the CUDA cores is probably better for CG art, etc.

as per anandtech bench the 6950 performsbetter than 560ti in games.
these cards are over 300$ in india :(
basically i need the card for my work mostly rendering and encoding, what shud i go with ?

i have another GPU's on my mind GTX460 hawk or 6870 twin frozer ?

i'll be overclocking it if need more juice out of it.

The MSI GTX 460 Hawk is excellent, and is spcifically designed for overclocking. The 6870's do not have a lot of overclocking headroom.

Don't trust simple reviews that compare a reference card to a reference card when the actual cards you are considering are factory overclocked. The MSI GTX 560 Twin Frozr is clocked at 880 mhz vs. 822 stock, for example. Conversely, the MSI HD6950 is clocked at 810 mhz vs. 800 stock. That will hold true for most 6950's, they are mostly reference clocked, while most GTX 560's will come with a hefty overclock, most over 900 mhz, and some as high as 1000 mhz.

Thanks, i think i shud go with the GTX 560 or GTX 460 according to my budget.
i don't need to overclocked cards coz these twin frozers can be overclocked easily with afterburner utility if needed.

right now i have XFX 9600GT standard, which i have overclocked to 800Mhz n gets heatup alot.

matto you always favour nvidia i know my friend but why dont you
just explain the guys here that 6950's can be modded into 6970
and you can overvolt the card close to 1gz and get over 6000in
3d mark performance mode :)

yes, i am thinking of nvidia but the 6950 is fast n has a bit extra muscle this confuses me.

like matto n dwarf said the nvidias cuda cores makes some differene in rendering n encoding, i know it but the 6950 is indeed 6970 if i flash it successfully. so the main point is i'll be having an 6970 in 300$ which is an awesome deal.

another question is that, Is the 6970 is better than GTX560 in rendering n encoding ?
