Hello all,

I can't get a solid answer(s) on this anywhere else and I have come close to being burned in a similar situation before,

First question is will this motherboard, the Intel microATX D945GTP (http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d945gtp/sb/cs-020711.htm) accept an intel core 2 duo CPU (of any kind)? I'm not sure what they mean by "LGA 775 Package"

The motherboard in question comes with an Intel Pentium D, Dual Core, 3.00 GHz. This will be replacing one with an AMD 64 3500+ 2.2ghz single core CPU. I am under the impression that the pentium d dual core is not a very big upgrade in comparison where the core 2 duo architecture will be.

This PC and the one being replaced are used for mid range gaming (medium-high settings, low resolution) with 3+ gigs of RAM and nvidia gt-240 512 ddr3 graphics.

Second question, is the Pentium D 3.0 much weaker than the core 2 duo 3.0 for gaming purposes?
