Just got me a Athlon X2 socket 939 chip.

Now the bios accurately reports what I think I've got, CPU-Z says I've got a 1core 2ghz processor. (x2 3800+ 90nm etc etc)

I've got 2 x 512mb dimms in single channel mode (could never get it to boot dual channel). The mobo is Gigabyte something or other with an nforce chipset.

Any clues?

I'll bet your running Windows XP, aren't you? You need to go under the Device Manager (right click on My Computer -> Properties -> Device Manager) and change the System type from "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" to "ACPI Multiprocessor PC." Then reboot the computer. Or, if it's been awhile since you have reinstalled Windows AND you have a real install disk (not an OEM reimage disk), reinstall Windows.
