My computer tower turns on but not the monitor

Hello,
Last night while on line my pc completely shut off. I turn the tower back on, I can hear everything starting up. When I click on the monitor it comes on for a split second and then shuts back off. Can someone please help me figure out what is wrong. I was working fine before hand. I have an Emachines with Vista (yuck)

could be a few things

try your monitor on another pc--if it does the same its the monitor

could also be the cpu--cant really test that without another similar cpu

could also be the psu

or the graphics

start by testing the monitor

Check the power cord to the monitor and make sure it is firmly seated (but doubt this is your problem).

Does you monitor have a built-in menu for visual settings (contrast, brightness, color saturation, etc)? If you can't even get that to appear then the monitor is kaput.
