Both monitor wont work at the same time

I have a xfx hd5770 with dual dvi output and 1 hdmi output. I used 1 dvi output with the included vga adapter for my 20" monitor and then I used the hdmi for my sony 40" hd tv. When the system is booting up both monitor is active but when windows finish loading, the smaller 20" monitor would get stuck or shuts off on the password screen. The sony 40" on the hdmi output is fine. If I want to use the smaller 20" screen I would have to unplug the hdmi cable from the back. I browse the internet a lot and I don't want to do it on my expensive hdtv.

What operating system are you using? Sometimes you have to go through a few extra steps to get dual monitors working for XP.

First thing you should do if you haven't already is make sure your video card drivers are updated.

I forgot to download the latest driver because I had difficulty with the registration on the xfx site. I try again today and succeeded. I then downloaded the latest display driver package. I right click and I saw the gpu menu came up. I then set it for both monitor. Since display 1 is a 40" and display 2 is a 20", it looks like I cant utilize the full 40" screen.
