hey how much ram would you be putting into your pc as that will also give quite a contribution to the speed especially for video rendering etc. from experience i know the amd 955 is an excellent choice due to the fact you said you will be overclocking. not to sure about the i3 though hope this helps?

955 because video rendering/editing would involve more cores and even with that great intel architecture, you can't beat the lacking of two cores :)

Mobo is good, though I don't think you'll need the integrated graphics. You could save 10 to 20 bucks and opt out for a cheaper one if you would like.

Are you crazy?

The 13 cannot be unlocked.

@OP

If your going for a Phenom II 955, get a AM3+ Mobo, so you can upgrade to a Zambezi later on.

Not yet, but anyways it is a better budgetary option than the 955 and probably performs better than the 955, then you factor in that in 2 years when DC reashes its end, you can throw in a cheaper then 2500/2600k which will more than certainly be better than anything the other team will have out.

Right now AMD are teasing the market with promising technology, but are delivering substandard CPU's in comparison to the corporate cash cow called Intel. I for one hope the APU's reach a acceptable performance level as it is a facinating piece of technology.

I was able to get a Sandy bridge i5 2500K by basically cutting out a graphics card completely, and hoping the hd 3000 is adequate for editing/visuals (I can always add a card later...) It does seem obvious that the intel SHOULD outperform the amd. I realize that I asked about an i3 originally, but I cheated!

Well...it was explained to me this way:

"'Quick Sync'. It's what makes the HD 3000 shine with video editing...that and you can actually over clock the HD 3000 graphics..."

I guess I will see!

You will most likely find that it will be sufficient enough, but intel integrated Graphics is nothing to the AMD equivilant.

No.

The i3 will never be able to be unlocked as it only has two physical cores on the chip.

I am pretty sure we were talking about overclocked chips and not core unlocking, and the "locked" was in reference to the core multipliers. Sure the existing Sandy Bridge I 3 doesn't have an overclockable version, but surely that will have to change.

That's not the point, you said "Unlockable" i3, not a "Overclockable" i3, also, the First gen i3's were overclockable, the Sandy Bridge i3's are not.They have locked multipliers though they can me overclocked marginally by increasing the BLCK.An i3 will still beat a Phenom II 955 when it is overclocked to 3.8Ghz.The i3-2100 will NEVER be have an unlocked multiplier.
