Wireless range extender

Hello,
I need a range extender which can transmit w/l signal upto 1/2 km without much interference... Actually I have a linksys router,my friends house is 5 or 7 blocks away from my house... so I need a strong range extender so that my friend can connect to my w/l network from his laptop.Please suggest me a good one and also it should be cost effective.

what standard a b g or n also if you check newegg they got some good stuff on there but if you really want to save money check out dd-wrt range extender turn old router into a repeater

The range of signal is, at most, 250m outdoor.
If you take in consideration that your friend lives @ 2km

2km=2000m
2000m/250m=8

You will then need 8 repeater, at 250m distance between your and your friend home.

The only possibility you have, is to go with a unidirectional antenna, which you'll need a straight line without anything between both house.
