Hello, i recently added a second nvidia GTX 460 to my system, enabled SLi, and i get graphical glitches in games now, and i dont think i even got a performance boost! have tried reinstalling drivers, and even reinstalling the cards!

in games there are white flashing patches on the screen, or flashing grey squares which are slightly see through.

temps are not too bad, never peaking over 60

i have an I7950
6gb of 1600mhz triple channel RAM
and a corsair HX850w psu.

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What brand are your GTX 460s? Also what are your temps?

one PNY and one EVGA, primary card ranges from 40-60,(evga) secondary card ranges from 35- 50 (pny)

What are the voltages on the 12v rail? How much are the changes on the 12v rail during normal use. If it drops to low or has large changes over a short period of time can make the machines unstable. Are you sure the whole card is cool and not just the core? It doesn't matter much if the core is 60c while the power vrm is roasting at 100c. Overheated vram can cause many visual errors as well.

Uhm im not sure, but the cause could be mixing the brands, EVGA and PNY. i really think that could be a problem

oh dude, try putting the PNY as primary and EVGA as secondary

and another thing. did you test both cards individually on the slots they are in if you SLI. eg. if you have the evga in the top slot and the pny on the bottem slot. did you test both individually on there slots.

i dont believe it is much to do with heat, if i disable SLi, i have no problems at all. (unless with SLi, temps are much hotter?)

the 12v rail doesent seem to change to rapidly, it seems to peak at 4.1v during games, and while not doing any demanding applications, seems to remain under a volt.

jurgens, ive mixed brands with SLi before, with no problems, i dont think it would be that, the cards are at the same clocks with the same memory ect.

and i have swapped the cards round, with no changes.

If that is your 12v rail then it is way under spec the 12v rail should always be around 12v. Use HWmonitor to monitor the 12v rail.

HW monitor reports the -12V rail to be around 12.1v

Switch your sli bridge connector around.

Don't have the 460, but I did have some flaky SLI problems originally. My problems were entirely isolated to the network driver, and the bridge between cards, It took some time to iron both problems out. Considering the cards worked perfectly individually. Literally the entire fix was the updated network driver for program problems and wiggle the bridge to get better contact for graphics glitches.

Create a profile for a specific game where SLI is enabled, then give that game a try. You can use GPU-Z or MSI's Afterburner to monitor both cards at once.

you should really try to get a same PNY or EVGA card and see if it isnt the mixing brands. i know the brands does not matter. but just to be sure.. mabe its the motherboard
