Okay so today after putting together my pc without yet receiving my CPU and GPU I started it up to see if I could get bios because I didn't know that you have to have a CPU to get to bios. Afterwards my friend told me I probably fried my motherboard by doing so. What are the chances I fried my motherboard by starting it up with no CPU?

There's no reason not having a CPU in it would fry it AFIK. As you no doubt saw, it won't even turn on without a CPU, so it would have no chance to hurt anything.

That's all that should have happened. I'd say you're fine.
