Hello all and thanks for your time...

been looking around but I keep getting different answers, figured I'd just make my own thread about this and get opinions on cpu temps with my current set up.

quick question before the main topic...I noticed that bios is showing my ram at 1066, shouldn't it be 1600? Bios is up to date...

-stock 2600k
-XIGMATEK LOKI SD963 92mm-w/ artic silver 5
-Rosewill challenger ATX Mid Tower
-CORSAIR XMS-3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
-Asus p8p67

^^This pic was while running blend for a little under 30 minutes. Room temp is usually around 78F-80F.

While playing BF:BC2 last night I was hitting 61-64C, which seemed a little high. This is my first build so i'm trying to learn as much as I can from it.

My main concern with the cooler is that i'm not getting the best out of it because of the surface. The surface that makes contact with the CPU isn't completely flat(see pic at the bottom), so the traditional pea sized thermal application doesn't exactly work like it normally does. I tried a suggestion of filling in the lines on the HS, and there wasn't much improvements...

this is what it looks like

Do these temps seem right or do i need to reapply? I could remove it heatsink and take a picture of how the thermal is spreading using my current technique if needed.

Thanks again and any advice is appreciated!

your cpu temps are great! 60c on a benchmark is perfect. newer intel cpus can get up to 80c without you having to worry. (of course lower is better.) they will cut out eventually if it gets to hot.
but hey, 60c, thats really good. you have nothing to worry about.

The Intel 2600K has a default RAM speed of 1066/1333. You would need to manually set it to 1600 in the BIOS options for the RAM to run at the 1600 speed. As noted your CPU temps are great due to the Xigmatek LOKI heatsink.

thanks for the replies, good to hear it's not as bad as I thought. I figured the cores that maxed at 67c & 69c during prime would be an issue, but it's much better than what I was getting with the stock intel cooler lol...

I'll mess around with the ram after I'm through with some HW, seems like it will be pretty easy with Asus though.

Ok I was able to set the ram to 1333 or 1666, and also lowered it to 1.55V. However, for some reason they both kept my processor at a steady 3.5 MHz, instead of it idling at 1.6 like stock does. Is there any way I can keep the stock cpu settings(not going to OC cpu yet) when I set the RAM speeds manually?
