So which processor would be better in multitasking and gaming.
I can get a x6800 for 100$ and a q6600 for 150 whats better?

With a single threaded application the winning cpu would be the cpu with higher frequency (assuming same L2 cache and bus Speed) = x6800

It depends on what apps you are running and if you overclock. Out of the box and not overclocking probably the quad core is faster running multi threaded games and applications. The Q6600 could probably handle more concurrent single threaded applications also.

For a single threaded application/games the x6800 is faster.

Glancing at Ebay the x6800 is going for $125-175 and the Q6600 goes for ~$75 +$4 S/h. A X6800 for $100 sounds like a good deal but a Q6600 for $150 sounds like a rip.

Q6600 Quad core 2.4 Ghz 2X 4MB L2 Cache

X6800 Dual Core Extreme 4MB 1066Mhz - unlocked multiplier

I'd get the C2Q. The reason is that it has something that the C2D does not, 4 cores. You cannot replace missing hardware but you can OC the Q6600 to get a better clock rate. The Q6600 is a relatively slow Quad-Core but it can OC to be made faster and I see it out-lasting the x6800 as far as futureproofing is concerned. Really, really though, for $150 you could get an AM3 motherboard and a Phenom II X4 955 which completely blows the Q6600 out of the water with performance. Just my 2 cents. :sol:
