for any serious performance forget about it time for a new rig

I'll second using Vista drivers. It should work. I've done it for some of my older components before, such as my old USB WiFi adapter that only has Vista x86 drivers, but I used it on my Win 7 x86. If possible, install the drivers with Vista compatibility on. To do this, right click on the driver's installation program, often setup.exe, setup.msi, or something like that and click the compatibility tab, set to Vista. If you can't do this (for whatever reason), then don't worry, it shouldn't be a problem, it's just a double check kind of thing.
