Friends computer keeps freezing

Hey guys my friends computer recently started hard-locking while in games of any sort, sometimes browsing, just normal stuff. But particularly League of legends seems to trigger something to cause it to hard-lock. Over the past 2-3 weeks we've tried new ram, and a different gpu, and im sure its not his psu, or hdd at this point. pretty sure its his mb that might have a bad ram slot or maybe pci-e slot thats causing this. I was wondering what you guys possibly think might be the problem. below are the specs:

Case: coolmaster haf
cpu: intel i7 950 bloomfield
motherboard: EVGA X58 FTW3 132-GT-E768-KR LGA 1366
ram:corsiar 1600mhz ddr3 dominator
hdd:500gb westerndigital blue
psu:corsiar 850w
gpu: gtx 465

Main suspects i thought at first were ram and maybe overheating but i checked temps for the cpu and they were idling between 38c max at 48-50c on the 4 cores. gpu idled around 46c max around 60c. Any help would be wonderful at this point since im basically stumped.

Did your buddy overclock?

Check the heatsinks.
50c is pretty hot on idle.

If it isn't the CPU, PSU, Drives and you tried using multiple RAMs, my next guess would be the Mobo.

What do you mean by "testing the cpu"? Is this "testing" stressing the cpu as much as the game is?

If you really want to test your cpu temps, run Intel burn test for 30minutes and report the max temps reached during testing. You can use CPUID HW monitor to record the min and max temps your cpu reached during the test.

used OCCT for almost a full hr stressing the cpu and those were the max temps.
