I am on a wait and see mode for bulldozer but want to be able to upgrade which is why I have am3+ mobo listed here. Thanks!

When you say video work what are you saying? Do you need a 6 core processor or is it more of a casual thing? Your build looks good for progressing to bulldozer but if you can handle waiting until bulldozer I would just to save you from purchasing an older cpu when you can get the best AMD has to offer shortly.

well, little more than casual but certainly less than professional work. I will I could wait for bulldozer but I want to be prepared for when my computer go. I took it to a computer shop and they said it is almost on its last leg. No one knows how much the bulldozer will cost either. I'm trying to save as much as I can and wait til bulldozer been out for awhile. Maybe the price will go down. Should I just get amd x4 955 or even something smaller than that.

You are in AMD purgatory. Buying now could have everything work for you but there is not a guarantee and I also hate buyers remorse. When the computer shop stated your comp was on it's last leg did they state what was? The psu going? The graphics? Your cpu? The whole thing? Personally, I think they are just trying to get you to buy now and then get you in a month or so to buy again when bulldozer shows up. My old C2D was still in perfect health and the guy using it now has no complaints.

My son use to work for them. I don't think they would try to rip me off. I have 2gb ram, an 8 year old gigabytes mobo, no video card, sound card work sometimes and it's very slow. I don't think using new technology like usb 3.0, ssd, video card would be feasible in an older computer.

I forgot to mention that I like interchangeability of amd cpu and motherboards. Unlike intel where one can't use 1156 with their sandy bridge cpus. It's like any time they change their cpu, you have to buy a new mobo.

Ah so when you said old dual core you meant the oooold dual core :p Ya, I'd imagine you are on your last leg at this point. It's your money, I'd try and hold out but a x4 would be better purchase for you than the x6.

I've been telling people to hold off until Bulldozer hits and we see what it does to the market. You're going to be the exception.

Your computer shop guys weren't steering you wrong. Replace that system ASAP. You'll be happy and I don't think Bulldozer--at least in it's first iteration, will be dramatically better than what's currently available. I'd really suggest going with an i5 2500k Sandy Bridge. It's better than all the AMD systems currently available and priced really well. I hope Bulldozer is competitive with the I5 but I wouldn't bet on it.
