Dell xps 8300

anyone know what power supply i can have replaced with the 460w that dell put in?
i need one that is (150 x 140 x 86 mm) and will work good with a radeon 6870 and higher cause im gonna update my gpu for when battlefield 3 comes out.

i think the case is ATX for the xps 830, so any ATX PSU should work. i would take out the existing PSU, measure dimensions, check the cable connectors (mainly #PCIE/SATA/12V) and hte motherboard connector (20 pin or 24 pin) and buy one with the required dimensions/connectors.

CX600 or Silverstone strider 600 would be good enough.
if you want better PSUs look at Antec earthwatts/gamer high current or Corsair TXv2
500w-600w would be fine.

im getting confused with the different size on dimensions like 5.91" x 5.51" x 3.39"
what does the x mean?
im new with this stuff so forgive me for my stupidity

it means 'times', when you describe the size of a rectangle, you'd say it's "4cm times 3cm" or something like that.
Don't worry about size too much, all ATX psu would fit.

how high of a psu do you think i will need with one gpu?
for atx i can only find 700w im trying to get 800 because i want to make sure it will max out my gpu for battlefield 3. still havent decided what gpu to get that will be able to run high settings for that game when its out.

a good 500 is all you need.
anything over 600 is absolute overkill.

it says the length is x6.3 but for it to fit perfectly id need 5.9" in length.

why would you even look at that.
a good 600watts would be overkill, look for $60-$80 psus, not $140 ones.
the length can vary, it should fit.

it says 610w for some reason, i thought it was 720. you think this psu will be good for a top of the line gpu? its only $84!
