The CPU temperature in BIOS (Using Gigabyte Touch BIOS) is different from HVMonitor (CPUID). Under load (using Prime95) BIOS reports temperatures ranging from 48-50, while HVM reports 55-59. Idle temperatures in BIOS range from 28-30, while HVM reports 34-40.

Can anyone explain the discrepancy with the temperatures? Is one most likely more accurate than the other? Is there another program that is known for its accuracy? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Yeah I would usually say bios is correct, but from my own experience and considering you're probably running your computer at a comfortable room temperature, I would say the HVM numbers are closer to the correct temps. as for the discrepancy, the bios software may calculate the readings differently than HVM. I use Asus pc probe and it seems correct. I use CPUtemp on my laptop and it is pretty accurate. It always shows the correct temp the computer is supposed to be at to turn the fans on.

I would trust HWMonitor over that Touch BIOS software any day. HWMonitor and similar programs (Core Temp, Real Temp, etc) are reading directly from the digital temp sensors built into each CPU core.

BIOS agrees with Touch BIOS regarding CPU idle temperature, but no way I can check the BIOS under load.
