I just spent a thousand on my new system and was thrilled how it worked for about 2 weeks.

Yesterday a funny electrical smell started emitting from the power supply while i was playing tera so immediately i turned it off. After inspection the PSU was as hot as i've ever experienced so i put a fan on it and left for work (everything was unplugged just being cooled down by a fan)

Then I came back home after work and decided i would give it a shot. Everything came on (all 6 fans) but the monitor did nothing and never even recognized it was connected to a graphics card (which i know works 100%). I listened for the beeps it makes when it goes into the BIOS but it never made them... Eerily similar to the DOA board i just replaced. Tried replacing the ram/video card/dvi plug/hdmi cord... no luck. DAM YOU ASROCK. (2 dead boards in 2 weeks!)

In essence everything powers up but the monitor never comes on and the bios never posts. Before this everything was working.

The motherboard is an Asrock 970 extreme3 and the PSU is an OCZ 600w.

At this point i assume i will need a new motherboard AND powersupply but i am just hoping there is another option... Any ideas??

i think you need a new power supply. since you have owned these parts for only two weeks you can get a replacement

the psu is a few days past the month newegg covers it. Its under warranty but i paid 40$ after 20$ MIR for the PSU so what's the point really?

so u don't think i need a new motherboard.... i like ur style my friend i really do. It actually amkes sense since this is the 2nd board that has done this with the PSU.

i will attempt the fix! newegg has coolermaster psu's on sale! woot!
