How to Install RAM in my Mobo?

Hello,
I have a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 Mobo. I was wondering how the dual channels work. I was reading the manual and what was said was somewhat contradictory to my understanding. Here is the online manual http://www.manualowl.com/m/Gigabyte/GA-Z68XP-UD3/Manual/210496 on page 16. It says that the sockets are paired up by the closest sockets . But then later down the page where it says under number 2, the pairs should be installed in the same colored sockets. Is there a typo or am I reading this wrong? How should I install my RAM? I have 2 pairs of RAM, so should it be by the colors or by the Channel A and Channel B in the manual?

DDR3-1 and DDR3-2 slots if using only a single pair of sticks. Yes, always put the pairs in matching color slots. And for best results, always buy the pairs in sets.

some mother board companies build their mobo to usually be in the same color slots. there are special occasions where the company who manufactured it will tell you to put one in alot a1 and the 2nd in slot b1
