4890 is a few times better but at the same time consumes a lot times more. how much wattage you have for your power supply? but i'd expect you will have to replace your power supply because normally the manufacturer will put in the one with accordance to hardware that built up your pc

Best performance per watt

thanks for the suggestion

but the graphics card in question is one that is being sold to be for 125 dollars.... which is right in my budget

so the question still remains

i believe my power supply is 250 watts

and it says that card is "500 watts" i believe

so can i buy this power supply

or should i buy this one instead

The 4890 is a very good but old card that needs alot of power. I suggest you get one made by Antec or corsair and 650W Minimum.

I forgot to say its in a totally new league to the one you have now. Also I made the mistake myself of trying to run one on a cheap no name 700W power supply and it just shut down the PC as soon as I opened a game so I has to use the onboard graphics until I got another PSU.

The 4890 is the one you said you could get and by an Antec or Corsair PSU with 650W or more.

so I will not be using this graphics card beyond belief.... do i still need a antec/corsair power supply?

lol yup!!

well i wanna get something that is decent so if a game DOES come out that i want to play then I wont have to worry about it....

but right now I just want a graphics card that is better then the one I have... and I want to upgrade my computer anyways (more ram and stuff) so i figured... got my income tax return so i might as well upgrade

EDIT: i just offered 100 dollars for the 4890 and he said that its a deal...

so would i need a super high end power supply?

Yes you need to get a good PSU for the 4890 or it will kill the PSU you have which in turn may kill your motherboard and possibly everything else in your PC. You may get away with a 550W but I still rcommend a 650W by a good manufacturer such as Antec or Corsair. Cheap 700W ones can sometimes only supply 300W or less on the 12V rails.
