I5 2500k or Phenom x6 1100t?

Hi there,

I am building a new pc (my first one) And i still don't know wich processor to use. It will be mostly for gaming like Counter-Strike : Source, BF2 and the soon to come Counter-Strike : Global Offensive. I will probably Oc a little bit and I will Sli in the future.

Wich one do you suggest me and why?

- Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 Quad-Core
or
- AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core

Thanks in advance.

  1. 2500k. It's much better for gaming than the 1100T. The 1100T won't use all of it's cores in games, and without the benefit of additional cores the architecture isn't as good or fast as the Sandy Bridge.
  2. The 2500K without a shadow of a doubt. Fast, efficient and just pure and simply impressive in any language.

Most games can use dual cores, there's a pretty good increase in performance from 2 cores to 3 cores if the game can use more than 2 cores. For games that can use 4 cores, the increase from a 3 core CPU is somewhat small.

Anyway, AMD's current line up cannot compete with Intel's Core i CPUs. They are competitive against Intel's older Core 2 Duo / Quad CPUs though.
  4. 2500K is really just a solid all around best-in-class lol.

The Phenom II X6 wins I think 4 benchmarks out of over 20, and gaming is among it's worst performance against the I5 2500.
