Phenom II x4 stock fan unbearably loud

I can't stand how loud this fan is. It gets so loud that i can barely hear myself speak. It's almost making a sort of screeching sound. It's driving me crazy. Is this normal? Do I have a defective fan?

Ok, maybe I over exaggerated on how loud it gets, but it's still pretty damn loud. I should also note that I'm using a 955be stock fan, and I'm not overclocking.

It's difficult to say without hearing your fan if it is defective or not. OE fans are small and must run at high speed to cool properly. If the noise bothers you then there are many relatively inexpensive heatsink coolers that are efficient and quiet. Coolermaster Hyper 212+ is a typical example but there are many including even fanless cooler options - which are quite large.

you are not alone. mine is a x6 processor and though the temperature was stable and low, that fan was driving me nuts, it was doing a constant howl. i bought one of the least costly cooler master coolers, the tx3, and everything is peaceful again.

Yep just buy yourself an after market cooler like the above mentioned and all will be quiet.

Check your VCore for over-volting, and properly set your SmartFan configuration.
