So, i've got $600 to spend on some computer parts and im looking to investing in either core i7 970 or a 2600k, BUT with the 2600k i would have to buy a new lga 1155 (currently have a lga1366) motherboard. So what I'm asking for is suggestions on specific brands or combinations that is under 600$.

You are right; I don't like it. Stay with what you have and do some overclocking. The i7-930 overclocks very well. My i7-920 is OCed to 3.82 GHz for 18 months now and the temps are fine.

You will have a lot of fun overclocking.

Spend your bills on women and wine! :)

Unless you could sell your existing build and recover a substantial enough return, moving to LGA1155 will be quite costly. LGA1366 stocks should get cheaper soon for clearance for the new LGA2011 socket, you may be in luck in that sense.

I don't know what the purpose of the build is but I will assume it is gaming and media based.

If you got money back and decide to go for a 1155 setup, consider;

ASUS P8P67 Pro Motherboard or P8Z68 V Pro if you need the Intel Smart Response Technology.

I5 2500K, it is $100 less than the 2600K and produces similar performance, like I said if you need the 4cores and 8 threads for a reason that I don't know about, the 2500K will be a wiser option.

You don't seriously need to upgrade your I7-930. Hell i run my 920 mostly at stock speeds (I have a OC profile saved on my asus mobo if I ever need the extra oomph).

The link ubrales sent to you is good but I mostly find OC guides from OCC overclockersclub)and used those to succesfully OC mine to 3.8ghz.

If you need help with your OC'ing then give us your system specs etc.

Also i got better stuff to spend bills on... Like...Gas for mi tiny car =[

I did some research on OC'ing my motherboard which is an XfX x58i and it turns out that this thing is near impossible to overclock. So I'm kind of screwed in that sense. I could probably sell my stuff to a friend of mine for a few hundred. thanks for the responds.

you could always hop on the flea-bay and nab a mobo that you can overclock. After a quick search you should be able to get something ok for $80-120, and then you can list your xfx for around the same price.
