AMD Cpu with 6950 or i5 with 6870

Solution
OK, 1090t is the way to go as it will give you very good overall system performance as well as plenty of gaming performance, it will not bottlekneck your 6950 at all, the 1090t is also a very good overclocker and with a cheap aftermarket cooler OCs of 4ghz are very common with this CPU, just make sure you buy an AM3+ board so its compatible with bulldozer on its release, and in the long term the 6950 will serve you much better than a 6870.

I won't be just gaming so what kind of performance loss will i get on basic computing things?

As long as you are not doing any CPU intensive stuff like video rendering the 955 should be fine

Basically i could do this

i5- $757 - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/forum2.php?config=tomshardwareus.inc&cat=31&post=318792&page=1&p=1&sondage=0&owntopic=1&trash=0&trash_post=0&print=0&numreponse=0&quote_only=0&new=0&nojs=0

or pretty much the same build with a am3+ mb and 1090 t or 955 be for 60-100 cheaper which would allow a upgrade to a 6950. what would you do. Also like i said it isn't just a gaming pc. I do basic web surfing, video editing, gaming, and many other things. I'm looking for a strong all around build.

Also I won't be going to high of a resolution so is the 6950 overkill?

The i5 will definitely give you a better overall performance in what you are doing

But if you have plans to upgrade your CPU when bulldozer comes out, AMD might the way to go with their new 8 cores coming out

1920-1080 is my res. And yah I have thought about getting bulldozer when it comes out. i keep bouncing back between intel and amd. My first thought is im not just gaming so processer over graphics. But then i wonder if i will really feel a difference between a 965 or 1090t and a i5 2500k. Also i want to have good life from this gfx card so a 6950 will last that much longer. which would you do? Also with amd i get crossfire support.

I think the Coolermaster is the better unit but ny only a slight margin, so go coolermaster 212, but fit the extra fan so 2 fans in a push pull configuration for super cooling.

Yes i think all 6950s can be flashed to 6970s.

Thanks alot!
I guess it should be after all I've been debating i5 or a phenom build for about a month but couldn't get everything I wanted at the right price. The 2500k is amazing but its 28% more expensive not including the more expensive motherboard. Plus you don't get Dues Ex :p .

And yah i was reading that you could unlock shaders wiithout messing with memory timings and things correct? Is their anyway you can direct me to a guide so when it comes in i could try? :D

I'm US. Heres what i have now which i love, but since I'm getting money for it i figured i'd upgrade to 1920-1080. But i also want to keep that 2ms response time because i play xbox on it too. Its ashame they don't make 16:10 1080p anymore. I prefer that ratio.

Most neutrals are clinging to the hope that the bulldozer provides a competition to the i5 and i7, though the likelihood is that it would be a underutilized and inefficient eight core processor that will still be schooled by a near perfect sandy bridge. At least it is a 32nm, that said Intel will come out with a 22nm chip, my money is on the bulldozer running hot.
