Which of the following types of cards would you choose to fit the system listed below: Radeon HD 5770, Nvidia GTX 460, or the new Nvidia GTX 550?

HP System: Core-i7-920 (B) (2.66GHz /1366 MHz) 1 MB L2 + 8 MB shared L3 (130W), 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-8500, and 640 GB 7200 rpm SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) hard drive.

PSU: AcBel 460w with 12v rail (12.0Va = 16.0A; 12.0Vb = 15.0A; 12.0Vc = 8.0A for total of 385W @ 50 degrees C Max).

Do you think the supply could handle the 460?

GTX 550

500 series > 400 series

I would assume that the 550 is able to handle tessellation better than the 5770. Tessellation is a huge factor for me when buying a new GPU. I like to max games out.

You would want to get the highest performing card of the bunch. In this case that would be the GTX 460. Yes, your power supply can handle it. GTX 460's are a good deal right now, and you can choose from several very good custom models. I would look for the Gigabyte Superoverclock 1 GB version.

why you say the 550? it is the worst price/performance out of any of those cards, and why would you care about tessellation on such a low end card, this is crap advice imo the 550 is a huge fail

I actually haven't read the reviews/benchmarks for this card until after I saw this comment. I assumed since the 560ti is comparable to the 6950, the 550ti would be around the 6850/6870 area. And since both the 6850/6870 are better than both the 460 and the 5770 then you can understand where I got my assumption from.

After reading the reviews, the 550ti is better than the 5770 and a little worse than the 460. So yea I guess we were both wrong :pt1cable: .

If you are gonna /ragepost and correct someone at least make sure you are right lol.

stay mad

not mad I just don't want anyone to get the wrong information, let me set you straight...
the gtx 550 is a good deal less of a gpu than the gtx 460,

you show me the review for dirt 2, thats one game, in most other games, the 550 is barley playable at 1650X1080, the gtx 460 1 gig is a superior card, you are referencing one benchmark on one site, the gtx 550 is the worst price/performance on the market right now, and I wouldn't want the op to listen to misinformation

look what happened to the gtx 550 in BFBC2:

you need to seriously reconsider your opinion of the gtx 550, its not terrible but for $150+, its barely better than the 5770 which is significantly less these days ... and I can see what crappy market segment it fits in but imo it is marked up too high given its performance, the gtx 460 768mb is even a much better choice for less money..

That was one game in which the 460 beats the 550ti out by 8 or less fps depending on the resolution. The 550ti even beats out the 460 in 1920x1080 in black ops.

It's clear the 460 is a better card but to say that the 550ti is total crap compared to the other cards is a bit of an exaggeration.

yeah it beats it in blacks op at 1920X1080 but loses to it at 20XXby16XX and 1650X1080, whatever I just would not get the 550 at its current price, furthermore BO is a poorly coded piece of garbage and due to its known bugs it shouldnt be used to evaluate any gpu imo, games like BFBC2 much better represent demanding games of the future, instead of some dx9 COD game

Has more games. the 550ti loses by like 3-5 fps in every game. Either way those GPU's have never sparked my interest. I've never been into Crossfire or SLI because I like to play older games sometimes that usually don't support those configurations.

I had the 3870, 4870, 5850, 5870, and now the 6950. I've always went higher end when I bought my cards. So price/performance I wouldn't know because I usually don't buy mid-entry lvl cards like those.
