After loading COD1 & UNITED OFFENSIVE on Windows 7 Home Premium (upgrade from Windows XP Home), A message appeares when initiating "play": "buffer overrun," and I cannot proceed any farther. The message screen is headed - MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ RUNTIME LIBRARY. These games worked fine on Windows XP; and my system is unchanged except for Windows 7 upgrade. Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem?
Thank You, michaelb59

have you tried compatibility mode?Run it on Windows XP.It's a very old game, which could give some errors
If I remember right you may have to run it in DX7(?) instead of DX9 mode. I seem to remember having to do something like that.
try disabling all but one of the cores to the processor
