BF3 will probably be more taxing on your video card and not your processor/RAM so much. By the looks of things your 6870 would do the job fine, of course, buying a X6 and faster RAM will make a difference, but probably not as much as would be worth it. I'd just leave what you have and see how it goes when it comes out.

If you are going to get a whole new system practically you should just go the i5-2500K route. If you are thinking of an X6 so you can upgrade to bulldozer, at least wait until bulldozer comes out before you make a buying decision. Either the X6 will drop in price even more, bulldozer will be better than Intel, or it won't.

Whichever way, I suggest waiting. If you have to buy now then an OC'd i5-2500K is way better.

For gaming the 2600k is not worth the extra $100. The 2600k has three advantages over the 2500k:
1. Slightly higher stock clock speed (an extra 0.1GHz I believe)
2. Slightly larger L3 cache, 8MB over the 6 MB on the 2500k
3. Hyperthreading

Advantage number one is easily countered by overclocking, the larger cache and hyperthreading do not have any effect on game performance. If you have some applications that can make use of more than 4 threads, hyperthreading may improve performance for those applications. No games currently use more than 4 threads, making the extra $100 for the 2600k pointless if gaming is the main use for the CPU.
