Hi Gents,

When will we see either 2560x1600 HDMI "tv's" or larger than 30" monitors being offered for sale. I envy the hi-res 2560x1600 30" monitors but don't want to give up my 55" lcd/led 1080 "tv".

Any thoughts or insights as to what the future holds in this area.

Thanks for reading.

I'm sure they will be pricey but we have been "stuck" at 1920x1080 for ahwile now. i'm sure because of the hidef standard and less powerful consoles aren't pushing the limits any more.

I'd pay 2-2500 for a 2560x1600 at 42' screen.

I know, i'm just wondering if/when we will see monitors at that size and res. I paid 1600.00 for a toshiba 240hz 55' lcd/led. So if a 30' 2560x1600 can be has for 1000.00 how much for the same at 42'...

Ouch, do they even exist? i've looked on the web to no avail. am i wrong in wondering why we haven't seen any advance in monitor/res. lately though. Other techs such as cpu's, gpu's and harddisk's continue to get better.

How many gamers out there would enjoy a 40" screen at 2560x1600?

No time soon. OTA broadcasts don't even have the power for 1080p yet, I doubt cable or satalite has the bandwidth to accomidate that resolution on multiple channels either. Not gonna sell alot of sets with no programming for them, how many of you are buying 3d TVs any time soon?

I agree no "consumer" level ultra-HD for awhile. But I wonder who will market a computer at 2560x1600 above 30" first. Somebody has to be thinking there is a coming market for them. Who delivers first may make some serious profit by doing so. I wonder if NEC or the like is seeing the loss in sales to "tv/moniters" and thinking they need to offer something better to get those customers back. I hope so.

Nothing to do with it; HDMI 1.3 simply does NOT have the bandwidth for higher resolutions, hence why 2560x resolutions typically use Dual DVI-D. You can't go to higher resolutions until you can physically carry the signal you need from the source to the TV itself.

HDMI 1.4 and Displayport will allow for higher resolutions, but with most broadcasts still at 720p/1080i due to bandwith reasons, where is the incentive to put out even higher resolutions? Nevermind that these two specs will take some time to phase in...

But why haven't "computer monitor" makers produced larger than 30" screens yet? As I wrote earlier i'm sure many of us would pay for a 36"-40" monitor. Plus professional users as well. If a ggod 30" is 1300.00 I'd pay 2500.00ish for a 36"-40"
