I recently made a topic about how I wanted to add another GTX 460 to my rig and that I couldn't decide on a power supply.
I was looking around a bit and found that I could get a new 5870 for $200 straight from newegg; this made me rethink the whole idea...
So here's the problem, which is more worth it? Obviously 2 GTX 460's are better but that would require a new power supply and having to actually run Sli. With a 5870 I would be able to keep my current PSU and still get much better performance in games.
I'm really stuck so I thought that I would ask you guys...
Gtx 460 sli with 1gb cards is the way to go.Look at this article to see the performance difference between the 2.Also with the 2 gtx 460s,if you find a physx game that runs fin without physx with 1 card and you want to boost your performance with physx, you can dedicate one of the 2 as a physx card. That and the fact that you have 3d support and cuda.
About the overclockability of the 5870,while most overclock decently, the performance increase you get doesn't get close to the performance of gtx 460 sli(unless you use ln2 and oc to the heavens of course).
Thanks for the reply. I should add that these would be the 768mb versions. I don't really know how much performance differs between the too though... It still sounds like it's better to spend the extra money and buy another one.
