My computer is started to show its age so I've decided to spend some cash to upgrade. I have been pretty "out of the loop" when it comes to new PC hardware lately due to university so I would like some advice on how to go about upgrading. I use the machine mainly for RTS gaming (SC2, supcom)with some fps sprinkled on the side. Also some compiling/rendering on the side for school (some would argue to be more important) will want it to be future proof for a couple years (hopefully till DDR4)

My current specs are:

xfx nvidia 680i mobo
Intel q6600 @stock 2.4GHz (flawed chip and wont OC without major instability :( )
4GB DDR2-800 RAM
2x Nvidia 8800GT's in SLI (driving 2 displays)
2x 150GB 10k rpm HDD
1x 1TB 5400k rpm HDD
850W power

another thing to note is I have a wonderfully customized Lian LI v2000 case with two 3x120mm rad liquid cooling loops that are being very under utilized.

current planned upgrade is:

MOBO: undecided
CPU: Intel i5 2500k (I hear its pretty good)
GPU: undecided, looking for mid-high end ~$250CAN. Will add a 2nd later on when its cheaper for upgrade
RAM: undecided, depends on mobo. 4GB DDR3 not sure what speed would be ideal

Thank you in advance for the help :)
