I made a post here yesterday about my psu dying and asking for recommendations away from corsair, but it appears I have a much bigger problem and I am not sure which forum this should go in, so I am posting it here.

In the last 48 hours I have had a psu die, a self powered usb hub die, and on my laptop I had a usb cd rom drive that was plugged in and I received an error on xp that the usb mass storage device had experienced a power surge and was no longer working. The USB port that it was plugged into is now completely dead to any device that is connected. It seems evident that due to the amount of failures in such a short time I have some sort of electrical problem that is causing USB components to fail, along with a very highly rated power supply. My question therefore is twofold: Firstly what kind of power issue would cause USB ports to malfunction, and secondly does anyone have any working electrical knowledge to give me a suggestion of what might be wrong and potentially how I can fix the issue. I live on a college campus in an apartment so anything I do has to be approved by student housing association.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, as I am at a complete loss as to what is going on, and I can't risk failures to more expensive devices.

You need a UPS. Be sure to get one with a true sinewave output if your PSU has Active PFC.

On the USB issue, might this be caused by plugging in a bad device in different usb ports? (Did you take that cd drive out of the usb hub and plug it into the laptop?)
