2 GB Radeon 5870 or 1 GB Radeon 6950?

Would a 2GB Radeon 5870 be a better buy than a 1GB 6950 if they are the same price?

  1. Not if you want to play DX11 titles with tesselation turned on.

If you're wanting to span 3 screens in eyefinity at high resolutions the 5870 might be a better choice, but otherwise the 6950 would be the better choice IMO.
  2. Ok, thanks for the input. I saw a 2GB 5870 for about the same price or cheaper than some of the 1GB 6950s, and was wondering whether it was a good deal or not at this point. Any suggestions on the best video card brand, or what brand to avoid? Anybody have any sales on 1GB 6950s right now?

    Best brand and best price.

I have always had good luck with video cards so I couldn't really say what brands to avoid, but of the companies making 6950s I would order them XFX>ASUS>MSI>THE REST from best to less best.
  4. I would get the 5870=Stream Processors: 1600 Stream Processing Units 6950= 1408 Stream Processing Units. You will get better performance from the 5870.
  5. will have a 1920x1080p probably 23 or 24"

this is nonsense stream processors are not everything and certainly not the only spec to judge a card based on, the 6950 1 gig is on par or in some cases slightly faster then the 5870 and imo it is the better choice for a 1080p monitor.

Get the 6950 flash it to a 6970. The 5870 too much problems and headaches

to my knowledge the 1 gig 6950 does not flash to a 6970, correct me if I'm wrong, either way the 6950 is a better choice (flashed or not)
  8. right and besides that it is not logical to say "durrr the 5870 has more stream processing units so therefore it is better" no false the 6950 just operates differently, don't judge a gpu based on a single spec alone, but yeah compare green and red specs side by side all the time
