2 GB Radeon 5870 or 1 GB Radeon 6950?

Not if you want to play DX11 titles with tesselation turned on.

If you're wanting to span 3 screens in eyefinity at high resolutions the 5870 might be a better choice, but otherwise the 6950 would be the better choice IMO.

Ok, thanks for the input. I saw a 2GB 5870 for about the same price or cheaper than some of the 1GB 6950s, and was wondering whether it was a good deal or not at this point. Any suggestions on the best video card brand, or what brand to avoid? Anybody have any sales on 1GB 6950s right now?
 


this is nonsense stream processors are not everything and certainly not the only spec to judge a card based on, the 6950 1 gig is on par or in some cases slightly faster then the 5870 and imo it is the better choice for a 1080p monitor.
 
right and besides that it is not logical to say "durrr the 5870 has more stream processing units so therefore it is better" no false the 6950 just operates differently, don't judge a gpu based on a single spec alone, but yeah compare green and red specs side by side all the time
