More about 5000 series 6000 series
  1. 5830<6850<5850<6870<5870
  2. No, the 6000 series has improved dual card scaling and much improved DirectX 11 tesselation performance. On the other hand, the 5000 series is more power efficient.
  3. The 68xx series was meant to be a replacement for the 57xx series, the 69xx series replaced the 58xx series, thats where a lot of the confusion comes from.

IMO if the 5 series had drivers like the 6 series they'd probably be on par with each other

They have some arch differences, something to do with VLIW 4 vs. 5, or something. For once, I don't feel like looking it up.

Only the 6950/6970/6990 have the arch differences. The 68xx are exactly like the 58xx series except with less shaders

Right on. The 6800's are more like the 5800's than the 6900's. In any event, I don't think the much older 5000 series is going to benefit from any driver updates. In fact, after reading the recent Tom's article, I don't think the 6000 series is going to get much of one either.

  7. It's amazing how many people post without simply looking through the site. On the home (index) page it shows a link titled "Best Graphics cards for the money, March 2011". In that link at the top is a index of the pages in the article. The last link says: "Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart". If someone wanted to know about GPUs, one could simply look through the chart, or wait for someone like me to simply post a link to that page.

  8. ^nope, 6950 is better and faster than the 5870
  9. also, specific cards is more helpful. A 6990 is better than a 5570, but a 5970 is better than a 6850. It is all in context.

    lol

It is amazing people who post without reading. My first reply included that link. :p
  11. I saw your link, but I was going to post it anyway, because my glorified speech wouldn't have meant anything if I didn't post the link at the bottom. I got what you are saying, and I read everyone's responses. My first post was in direct response to the OP, unlike this one, which is in response to you anort3. Good attempt at a callout though.

nope it isn't unless tessalation is enabled now name 5 games with tessalation. ( I honestly don't know)
  13. HAWX 2, Metro 2033, WoW, AvP, Dirt 2, Dragon Age II.

    Six!
  14. ^Yeah, but DA2's tesselation is piss poor, so is Metro's (character's only) and Dirt 2 I don't think uses it... if it does it's also very minor.

Battlefield 3 will use it though!
