All parts are compatible, I'm not looking for that kind of check. To those who have already home-built similar systems, is this a good setup?

Please offer any advice you may have on overpowered or underpowered components, keeping in mind that the rig is meant to run Microsoft's Flight Simulator X at high framerates. I will not break $1,000, and would prefer to keep the price close to its current mark.

Opinions?? :)

6GB RAM is tripple channel and the platform you choose need dual channel RAM..Other than that you choose a)very bad quality SSD b)also the 975 is not the best option..it's the same as Phenom II X4 955 but with higher frequency clock. So you buy the 955 and use the rest money for a better graphics card (Radeon HD 6870) and c) your choice of psu is overkill..a good 550W PSU will be more than enough!

I'll post my build in a while!

Okay, sounds good. I'll keep the dual-channel 8GB setup then. Thanks!

Aight, I've already changed to the 2x4GB RAM setup.
a) Bad quality SSD? I thought OCZs were ok... what's a better name?
b) Wow. I had no idea they were actually the same chip. lol thanks thats really helpful and a money saver. Here is my replacement GPU, as per your suggestion.

SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB Video Card with Eyefinity - $209.99

c)I'll bump that down too, as I don't forsee too many upgrades.

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-550VX 550W Power Supply - $89.99

Thank you! I'll have a looksee at your build and try to take some pointers from it, since I see you have just put it up.

This is the updated plan. Anybody have further refinements, or is this one good to go?

-Erik

You may want to look at an aftermarket cooler for your overclock,
not sure on 955 temps at 3.8 and I assume your getting some fans for the controller? otherwise looks good man,
Have to ask by the way, Raven fan? as in James Barclays books?

I don't think I'm going to order any aftermarket cooling unless I find I need it later on. I'll leave room in the budget, though. I have like 4 fans included in the case I believe, so I'll just crank them up if need be. Like, I'll bump up the clock speeds little by little, checking the temperature peaks as I go. That's part of why I included the fan controller... But good to hear that this puppy will do well!

And nope, though it does ring a bell. Chronicles of the Raven or something I think. lol trueravenfan comes from like the Baltimore Ravens football team.
