HDD problems

I am building a new PC. I have a Asus P4T mobo and am using my old Packard Bell hdd. I cannot read from the HDD. I have also downloaded Ubuntu but this also has failed. I changed the BIOS. I keep getting Disk Failure press anykey to re-boot. What can I do any ideas?

Try to get either a floppy or a USB or a DOS bootable cd/dvd and fdisk the hdd,or boot from a windoze bootable cd/dvd...
