Hi guys, Im looking to upgrade my cpu soon to play newer games and video editing/rendering.

I don't know if i should get the 2500k, or the 2600k. This is what im getting:

Intel 2500k or 2600k?

2500k: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072

2600k: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070

ASUS P8P67
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131705

8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144

I want to play Crysis 2 on the New DX11/Textures Pack, Battlefield 3 ETC and im starting to do some Video Editing.

Im upgrading from a Core 2 Quad, So i know i will see a huge difference from either. :)

Thanks guys, Please respond.

Gaming is much more dependent on the GPU so either CPU will be more than sufficient. The only reason to get the 2600K is if you do serious photo/video/audio editing/encoding.

To illustrate my point check out these benchmarks: Anand Bench

They are within a few FPS of each other in all the games.

True enough for gaming only, but the OP does rendering. That argues for a 2600K and the hyperthreads.
It also suggests that a Z68 motherboard might be better to permit Quisksync and overclocking.

So.. I could get this for $593

2600k
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070

ASUS P8Z68-V
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131729

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144

Total is $593.. The 2500k/P67 is only $459 and i could get a Corsair H100 and do a nice OC..

By the way, By Rendering meaning i do Sony Vegas, C4D, Photoshop. Not to hardcore but consistent. I really like the 2500k as its not as much money haha :p

Also, Im running a XFX 6870 as the GPU, A Corsair 600T Case, and a Corsair TX750V2 PSU.

Thanks guys, Please Respond :)

spend a day rendering and see how much you'd pay to get it done hours sooner.

2600K is about 10% quicker in rendering than the 2500k, thats an hours saving for every 10 hrs rendered.

Rendering is something some people spends thousands on to setup render farms of computers... its up to the OP to decide whats thats worth $100 bucks to him.

@subasteve5800

I've already got an XFX Radoen HD 6870 as i said above.

Thanks!

@Popatim, I only do Sony Vegas/AAE/C4D/Photoshop. No Hardcore video encoding that takes hours, as my Core 2 Quad already renders in Sony Vegas really fast.

2500k looks good at $179. I can get it at Micro Center, And Get the board/RAM on Newegg.

Thanks.

2500K's will get to 4.0 with even a stock cooler, but it will be noisy when the fan speeds up.
A $30 cooler is all you need for 4.0 without voltage changes.
Perhaps half of the chips will do >4.5 with a $30-$80 cooler and some voltage management.
maybe 5% can get to 5.0 with liquid cooling.

Where do you need to be?

Man, My Core 2 Quad is at 2.5 Right now Rofl.

I just want to play new games that come out, but not spend to much money. That's why im wondering how it will play on the 2500k vs the 2600k, or any other games. I really can't spend a whole lot of money. Thanks.
