What is the best way to get USB capability for TP 760CD?
We have tried a PC Card to USB adapter which didn't work
(suspect that it needs 32 bit and suspect laptop has 16 bit slot).
Any advice would be appreciated. Machine runs Windows 98.

Make sure that you have Win98SE and the latest USB updates for it. The
original Win98 had very poor support for USB.

Also you may be able to find a 16 bit PC Card USB adapter on eBay or a
Google search.

It's been reported that USB requires some plug/play features of Cardbus.
The bad news is that you probably won't find a USB-less laptop that
supports Cardbus. Both happened about the same time. Catch-22.

There's an "unofficial service pack for 98SE that bundles all the USB
updates and other stuff." Google for it. Don't think it will solve
your hardware problem tho.

I have used a USB2 cardbus card with 98SE, so I know it can work.

I have a 760ED and have an install of W2k and separate W98SE. A
HiSpeed USB PCMCIA card works no probs plug/play only running W2k but
no way under W98 even with the drivers loaded. Same with a Tosh Tecra
740CDT, infact, here, the machine hangs altogether when the card's
inserted but a beauty under W2k
