I have connected a print server (Edimax) to my router and given it a fixed IP address of 192.168.0.20.
I can ping this IP address from my computer. However, when I try to print a test page it gives the error:
The port to which the printer is connected is not supported.
Check the port.

I tried connecting it through the Add printer wizard and selecting local printer, then connect via TCP/IP, I also tried using the printserver port but it won;t connect.
ANy ideas how to print through it?

The printer is connected to the print server via USB.

You need to create a virtual printer port that points to the i.p and then install the drivers.

Try opening up a command prompt with admin rights and type dir > 192.168.1.20 or dir > lptx with x being the printer port number.

If you get output, printer driver issue.

I get no output at all:

C:\Documents and Settings\J>ping 192.168.0.20

Pinging 192.168.0.20 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.0.20: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.20: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.20: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=128

Open your router and post the settings you have setup for the printer. Likely its an IP address with a :xxxx port suffix (ex: 192.168.1.20:9100) Your printer settings must match exactly these on the PC and everyone I have used uses RAW.
Often the ip address you assigned the print server has to be outside the range of those being assigned by DHCP.
After you get it where everything is seems to be set right, drivers are installed, but its still not working and you dont know why... turn it all off and when you turn it on the next day it will work fine. (odd but true in many cases LOL)

errors just say:
The port to which the printer is connected is not supported.
Check the port.

That is from the printer.
It;'s just a USB cable plugged into the edimax so not sure what to use.
