hi-
my first laptop was just given to me, it's a toshiba tecra 8100. i have
a docking station, but i cannot find an ethernet interface on that
docking station, or on the laptop. how should i connect this laptop to
my ethernet cable modem? is there a common type of crossover cable? any
special type? is there a hidden ether port on either of these devices?

thanx

If u don't see an ethernet jack, then u need to purchase a pcmcia NIC.

Go to the toshiba website, product support and check the product
specifications for the tecra 8100. You'll find that in the communications
section only an inbuilt modem is supplied.

As already suggested a PCMIA to ethernet card.
Alternatively a USB to ethernet adapter.

The 8100 only has an inbuilt 56k modem - no NIC. They introduced the
NIC and modem combo in the Tecra 8200.
