CPU Running Hot!

Just finished building my PC today and CPU temps are scaring me. I just booted the PC and went into bios before I turned off my PC the CPU was running at 54c with CPU cooler RPMs at about 5000. The temp had started at low 40s when I first started it up I think and I'm not sure what the RPMs started at.

PC Specs:

Cooler Master HAF 912
Antec Neo 520W
Ripjaws 8GB 1333mhz
Asus M5A97 AM3+
Sapphire 5670
Seagate Barracuda 500GB

AMD 955!

1) Are you using the HSF that came with the X4 955?

2) Have you verified the HSF is properly seated?

3) How did you apply / handle your thermal compound? (Re-apply new or use stock that came per-applied)

I heard thermal paste needs time to cure and it's only been an hour since I installed the CPU cooler which is STOCK. Also it was running like this with no strain only in bios without any OS.

Yes... it needs some time to cure but it isn't going to mid 30c overtime (a degree or two at best). I would verify 2) & 3) to see if that improves your temps.

Also the HSF is seated flat and is secure.

What are your temps when with Windows and using HWMonitor to monitor temps?

What if i get the hyper 212 plus which i was planning to get later on because I wanted to overclock.

I haven't installed windows yet should I or should I wait until I get a new cooler. Also please enlighten me on what HW Monitor is.

It is a software used to monitor your temps from within Windows... http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

You should be save to install Windows at those temps until you verify your temps. I'm not sure you need a new cooler, as much as to reapply your thermal compound with an aftermarket compound. The stock cooler should keep it cool enough on a non-overclocked system.

Alright I'll go and try to reseat the HSF once and then install windows and update.

It looks like you are good to go based on those temps on a stock HSF.

The key in HWMonitor is too see what your core temps are running at, which is the more important reading.

And it is totally normal. Windows has CPU drivers that can control the power management, turn on or off parts of the CPU when used/not used,... resulting in more lower temps than those in BIOS. In fact, in BIOS, the CPU is running full power with all of its parts turned on and at full power. That generate lot of heat and caused higher temp.
