i have intel p4 with 3GB DDR2 ram should i go for 1GB graphic card or 512MB Graphic card...???

The amount of RAM you choose really depends on what resoultion your monitor is.

Which card were you thinking of getting?

Whats your current power supply?

Whats your monitors resoultion?

The other issue you will face is both ATI and Nvidia graphics adapters prefer multicore CPU's to get the best performance. They will work, but will be slower than a duo or quad core system will be.

Memory on the graphics card depends on your monitor. Personally I default to picking the 1G, but 512M/768M would be fine for up to 1920x1080 and lower is better..

I would go for a 512 MB card, since you will have to buy a low performance gpu (your cpu will bottleneck anything better than a 5450), and this kind of gpus won´t have enough power to use more than 512 MB.....
