Motherboard build

I am building a new pc...when I get my motherboard installed it will be a few weeks before I get the processor(cpu) and ram..due to money..

can i hook everything up and try and turn it on...to test it..

or since it doesn't have cpu/ram will it fail the post and not turn on or restart?

I just wanted to try and test it to see if it will stay on for an hour or so...
