Great system and decent graphics but bad lag on games

I have the core i7 870 @ 2.93ghz. I have 12gb of RAM ( not really needed) and the ATI Radeon HD 5450 GPU, and windows 7 64 bit. Games that should work excellent on my pc, just lag out horribly. Games that should be working well on my grahpics card are lagging very bad, to the point I have to exit the game. Can someone tell me why this is? It happens with many games: Dead rising 2, splinter cell conviction, fallout 3, and many others that SHOULD work. Please help me out everyone.

Sounds to me like you bottlenecked it.

5450 is not a very good graphics card, reccommend you get a better one, maybe a 460gtx for 150$

5450 is the worst graphics card you can get from the 5xxx series.

It's mainly used for looking at porn in HD.

Got a nice CPU, an unnecessary amount of ram and went completely budget on the graphics card... Makes no sense.

actually the ram isn't a bad idea so stick with it while the card wasn't the best move but you could have done worse. A cheap gtx 460 or 6850 will go great with your rig.
