Hello you all! I have a Vaio sb3q9e. I have upgraded the RAM from 4gb to 8gb and now I´m thinking about changing the HDD for a SDD. I have watching some reviews for OCZ Vertex 3 and Samsung 830 both of 256 GB. But my question is, does my chipset support those transfer speeds? because I don´t know what kind of sata chipset has my notebook.
Don't worry about your chipset too much. Just make sure it's SATA and not IDE, and that's enough.
While you may not have a SATAIII chipset in the Vaio, a SATAI or II would still see a dramatic improvement in speed when using that SSD. Mainly because the speed increase you will see with your eyes is going to be random performance. Most of the maximum speed specs that are printed (200, 300, 400MB/s) are sequential performance and not representative of the average user. Random is the typical work load.
In short, if you know you have a SATA HDD and not IDE, then go for that Vertex3.
